3 New Years Resolutions for your Social Media

Happy New Year! As we move into 2016, this is a good time to make some New Years Resolutions or Goals for your online presence in Social Media. For most people, the temptation is to say ‘Get x number of Likes by the end of the year. While this is a discrete measure is an easy to see achievement it doesn’t actually measure your success on Social Media, that is a more complicated measure which includes Reach and Engagement, and is driven by good content. So to drive your success this year, here are three resolutions you can make for 2016.

  1. Create a Content Calendar and post regularly

A Content Calendar is a plan for what you will post and when. A well planned calendar gives variety of post types and content, it also means that as you have a plan you will be more likely to follow through and post regularly. Advise on the number of posts per week does vary, we have found that 2-3 times per week is manageable for most small businesses and often enough to keep followers up to date.   1. Try new types of posts

New Types

You may have good Reach and Engagement, but there is always room for improvement. One way to do this is to vary the types of posts you make, and then measure how the compare to your usual types of post. Do you usually post statuses? Try pictures. Post pictures? Try links. And if you post Links perhaps try videos. Videos are one of the fastest growing media at the moment, so you are likely to get an increase in you Reach and Engagement by using these. Remember though that your content needs to be good quality and relevant – don’t try and compare a quickly made video with a beautiful photo that has taken time and effort to shot.

  1. Interact with your Followers

Interact

Interacting with people on your Page or Profile is a great way to demonstrate your business expertise, to show your business is friendly and approachable, and to put your business in the forefront of their minds. People remember the businesses that have given them great service, both in person and online, and will tell others about it too.

 

These are three things you can do in 2016 to increase your Reach and Engagement on Social Media and to get it to work even better for your business.
